The target is where the archer aims to shoot the arrow, and is generally circular in shape. It is divided into 10 zones, the outermost zone with a score of one, while the bull's eye or the innermost zone, or the X ring, is worth 10 points.

The size of the target depends on how far it is situated from the archer. For shooting distances of 60, 70 and 90 meters, the target's size is approximately 122 centimeters wide. But for shorter shooting ranges of 30 and 50 meters, the size of the target is 80 centimeters wide. For 122 cm targets, each zone measures 6.1 cm wide; while for 80 cm targets, the zone is 4 cm wide each.

In target archery, the target is slanted 15 degrees backward, and its center should be 130 cm away from the ground.

The size and position of targets varies depending on its type of use. The target distances and target's sizes, structures, and position varies in different types of archery such as the field archery, clout archery, crossbow archery, 3D archery, flight archery, wand shooting, and others.
