Arrow shafts also serve a significant role, since it is one factor to consider in determining the weight and length of the arrow that affects its speed and performance once it is shot. The stiffness of the shaft, or more commonly known as its spine, refers to how great or little is the tendency of the shaft to bend. Although it does not necessarily mean that the stiffer the shaft (meaning less flexible), the better; since there are other factors to consider in choosing the correct shaft stiffness. The behavior of an arrow differs when it is released with fingers, or when shot with a use of a release aid. To be able to have a good flight, it is important to know that your arrow shafts perfectly match with your bow, not to mention your targeting style, so as to perform your desired shooting method. |

In simple and plain explanation, to fletch is to glue a feather or vane to an arrow shaft. The art of fletching is done in order to aerodynamically stabilize the arrow on its flight once it is released. These fletches are attached at the butt-end of the projectile, to stabilize its flight, despite of air resistance. Also, some fletches have something to do and highly affects the spin of the arrow once it is released.
